Quenched reduction is revisited from the modern viewpoint of field-orbifolding. Fermions are included and it is shown how the old problem of preserving anomalies and field topology after reduction is solved with the help of the overlap construction.

Numerical evidence combined with Eguchi-Kawai reduction indicate that there are no finite volumes effects in the large N limit of QCD as long as the linear extent of the four-torus is bigger than a critical size. This is referred to as continuum reduction. Since fermions in the fundamental representation are naturally quenched in the large N limit, as long as we only have a finite number of fla...

We compute the electromagnetic form factor of the pion using non-perturbatively O(a) improved Wilson fermions. The calculations are done for pion masses down to 400 MeV and for lattice spacings of 0.07 – 0.11 fm. We check for finite size effects by repeating some of the measurements on smaller lattices. The large number of lattice parameters we use allows us to extrapolate to the physical point...

where β = 1 2g and g is the continuum gauge coupling. We will keep b = β N fixed as N goes to infinity, and this amounts to setting gN = 1 2b . The reduced model on the lattice has a [U(1)] symmetry. The Eguchi-Kawai argument for reduction holds only if the [U(1)] symmetry remains unbroken [3]. This is not the case as b → ∞ [4]. This problem is resolved by defining the quenched reduced model [4...
